Man, woman sentenced to eight hours community service

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced a man and a woman to eight hours community service for fighting in public.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Johnson, sentenced traders – Chinedu Okoye, 53, and Rasheedat Dauda, 32 -following their guilty pleas.
Okoye resides at No.19, Dosumu St., Lagos Island, while Dauda resides at No. 15 Akosho St., Ijora, Lagos.
The police charged the traders on two counts.
“Having observed the demeanour of the accused, and taken into consideration that they are first-time offenders, I hereby sentence them to eight hours community service,” she said.
Johnson held that that the sentence should be served within 24 hours.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Raphael Donny, had submitted that the accused committed affray and conducted themselves in a disorderly manner on Feb. 17 at 3.30p.m., at No. 19, Dosumu St. on Lagos Island.
Donny said that the accused fought because Dauda allegedly splashed water on Okoye.
He said the offences contravened Sections 54 and 166(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011
